Linwood College
Tena koutou katoa,
Nga mihi nui ki a koutou i tenei ra,
Greetings to you all,
As the Principal of Linwood College I am committed to ensuring that our young people have the very best of educational opportunities. To achieve this, one must be readily open to evaluate and innovate our school curriculum and pedagogical practice. This ensures that our young people have the most effective and engaging teaching possible, which supports them to achieve to their highest level.
In this years school charter one of the key foci is to “Continue implementation of the school curriculum document”.
In 2007 the New Zealand Curriculum document was released with a clear statement of what is deemed important in a 21st century educational environment. There were many writers and contributors who were charged with the responsibility of ensuring that this new curriculum will meet the needs of young people.
The New Zealand Curriculum - what is it?
The NZ Curriculum sets out what we want students to know and to be able to do through their primary and secondary schooling. It starts with a vision of students as lifelong learners who are confident and creative, connected, and actively involved. It includes a clear set of principles on which to base curriculum decision- making. It sets out values that are to be encouraged, modelled, and explored. It defines five key competencies that are critical to sustained learning and effective participation in society and that underline the emphasis on lifelong learning.
During 2012 we want to continue to encourage our students to aim for further enhancement of personal achievement, so that more students work to achieve endorsed Merit and Excellence certificates.
Our annual OPEN Night is taking place after Queens Birthday weekend. We welcome parents/caregivers and interested students to come along to this occasion, a chance to find out more about what Linwood College can offer.
Noho ora mai ra
Kind regards,
Margaret Paiti
Principal
