Course Code:
12Phy
Year Level:
Year 12
NCEA Level:
2
Learning Area:

Department / Subject Area:

Physics explains how the world works. This course investigates the basic principles that underpin how the universe behaves – from the very big to the very small. Physics is typically required for university Physical Sciences, Engineering, Medical Sciences, Architecture, etc.

Prerequisites: 14 Level 1 Science credits including AS90940 (Mechanics) plus Level 1 Mathematics, Algebra.

Level 2 Physics is a full year course consisting of four topics that progresses you towards gaining 23 Level Two NCEA credits. Two of the standards are assessed internally (7 credits), the three remaining standards are externally assessed (16 credits).

Students need to gain 14 credits at Level 2 to be eligible for entry into a Level 3 Physics course.

The Science Learning Area website provides an online learning environment students can use to revise their work and prepare for future learning. They will be able to complete quizzes, contribute to forums, access resources and receive important notices. The site is accessed by going to http://tinyurl.com/LCSciencePage.

Stationary Requirements: To ensure that students can access all course work during the year, particularly for the external standards, all notes and exercises are to be completed in a 1B8 Hardcover exercise book. Students are issued with a write on workbook ‘‘AME Level 2 Physics’ at a cost of $20

If further information is required please contact the Head of Learning Area Helen Mora at mor@linwoodcollege.school.nz.
