The basic physics in Level 2 is extended into new areas. In mechanics, further work on linear motion leads into rotational dynamics, simple harmonic motion Study of waves introduces interference and Doppler effect. Atomic physics introduce the Bohr model of the atom, quantum effects and the application of the conservation laws to nuclear fusion and fission.

Prerequisites: 14 credits at Level 2 Physics.

Physics is a full year course, consisting of five topics, that progresses you towards gaining 22 Level 3 NCEA credits. Two of the standards are assessed internally (6 credits), the three remaining standards are externally assessed (16 credits). If, in the future, you intend to complete a tertiary course that requires Level 3 Physics you must ensure you know both which standards and/or the number of credits needed.

The Science Learning Area website provides an online learning environment students can use to revise their work and prepare for future learning. They will be able to complete quizzes, contribute to forums, access resources and receive important notices. The site is accessed by going to http://tinyurl.com/LCSciencePage.

Stationary Requirements: To ensure that students can access all course work during the year, particularly for the external standards, all notes and exercises are to be completed in a 1B8 Hardcover exercise book. Students are issued with a write on AME workbook Level 3 Physics at a cost of $25.
