Year 7 and 8
At the beginning of 2014, Linwood College was extremely proud to welcome year 7 & 8 students to their campus, making Linwood College a year 7 to 13 college. The year 7 & 8 area currently consists of four home room classrooms each with a primary-trained mentor (home-room) teacher. This is the base area for the year 7 & 8 students. Outside of their home rooms the year 7 & 8 students are able to access the specialist teachers and the specialist facilities available in the rest of the school.
The curriculum includes a strong focus on Literacy and Numeracy as part of a transdisciplinary approach using 'Challenges' or Inquiry topics as the focus. These 'Challenges' cover issues of global importance that ensure our students have a strong future-focus to their education. The year 7 & 8 area has a 1-to-1 ratio of devices to ensure fully equitable access for all students. Google Apps for Education are used to give students the opportunity to collaborative and communicate in a 21st Century environment. The New Zealand Key Competencies are fully embedded into the teaching and learning programme and the Home Learning programme is structured around the Linwood College Graduate Profile.
There are a range of extra-curricular opportunities available for year 7 & 8 students including leadership opportuniites, graffiti art, robotics and sports and to support students with learning outside the classroom programme there is a Study Centre, run by a highly qualified teacher, where children have ongoing support and access to computers and other internet-enabled devices.
