Tourism

This offers students the chance to see unique wonders of the country. Travel through Lord of the Rings country and experience Middle Earth.

Students will join tourism school trips and learn about the geography of New Zealand, the culture, its people and its wonderful environment.

Trips included are:

  • Akaroa  - Harbour cruise and dolphins   
  • Queenstown  - Jet boating, bungy jumping   
  • Kaikoura  -  Whale watching, coastal walks   
  • Hanmer  -  Hot springs, mountains

All outdoor activities and trips are fully supervised and covered by health and safety requirements.  The teacher is certified in outdoor safety, water safety, climbing and abseiling. 

In Terms 1 & 4 students will have the opportunity for more summer style activities around the sea, rivers and lakes.

In Terms 2 & 3 students can experience the snow, mountains, ice and winter sports.

Academic Subjects – 16 Hours per week

A wide range of subjects are offered. These include: English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, History, Classical Studies, Painting, Photography, Tourism, Physical Education, Music, Drama, Maori, French, Japanese, Media, Home Economics, Hospitality, Design Technology with Fabrics, Economics, Accounting, Computer Studies, and  Digital Technologies. Students choose four subjects. All subjects offer NCEA credits towards the National Certificate.

English Language – 16 Hours per week

Students can choose to mix English with Academic subjects or do a full time English course. This option includes communication, reading, writing, listening and grammar skills. Courses are offered from Beginner, Elementary to IELTS.


General Information

Course fees: These are available on the website.
The fees cover academic tuition, adventure education, transport, activities and tourism trips.

Accommodation:
Students are placed in homestay accommodation with local New Zealand families.
Three meals a day and laundry services are provided. Students are met at the airport on their arrival.

Insurance:
All students must have personal travel and medical insurance. The school is able to organise this.
